First marathon by age 48

My intentions are to run my first marathon by age 48. Originally, my plans were to run my first marathon at age 40. Once I ran a half marathon, all my desire to continuing training for a full marathon went to the wayside. I quit running altogether. Now, I have met some friends that are willing to run a marathon with me.....Thanks to Jessi, Shannon, and Chris!!! We have decided to make our journey more interesting by running a destination marathon!!! We chose to run the Rock N Roll Marathon in San Diego, CA in 2012! Hopefully writing about my journey to run a marathon will keep me and my cohorts motivated.

Rock and Roll half and full Marathon

I am gearing up to run a half and a full marathon! I have had a couple of setbacks: hairline fracture in my right foot, and then as of Friday January 6, I hurt my lower back. I am ready to get into some heavy running!! The weather has been great! I am registered for both races, and have my accommodations for San Diego. I am off to Mexico on a 4 day cruise to Mexico, and hopefully I will begin some serious run/walking when I return!!!

I am continuing to work out daily. On Friday, because we were heading out of town, I was only able to get on the treadmill for 30 min. Saturday I played 18 holes of golf and that was a workout!!!!
On Monday I felt really good when I worked out!! I did weights then 15 minutes on the treadclimber and finally 15 min. on the treadmill-5 minute warmup and 10 minutes at a good 4.2 pace. I felt really great!!!!
While I have time off this summer, it's soo easy for me to workout! I don't know how I'll do when I go back to work. Hopefully by then it will be a habit for me and I will feel bad if I don't work out.
Ladies-I think I am going to sign up for the Rock and Roll half marathon in Dallas on March 25, 2012. That'll be a nice long run for me. Chris I forgot the name of the race you found? It had something to do with the Arboretium. I was going to go ahead and register this month because you get free tickets to one of the concerts in the park. Let me know if you want to do it, cause I may want to spend the night over at your place.

another day of training-day 2!

So far I have actually worked out 2 days in a row and today should be day 3 Woot Woot!!
I jogged 10 min. or the treadmill, which was 5 min. longer than my day one workout. I wonder if I increased my running 5 min. everyday, if I would be able to run a full marathon??? Someone do the math for me!!!:)
Thanks for the bra idea, Shannon! I wore two yesterday and it helped soo much!
Until next time!!! I'll keep working out!!! Rock and Roll 2012!!!

San Diego here we come

okay, so I think I have started training....well, I started to workout anyway, we'll see how long that last!! I started a journal to keep track of my weight workouts and how much and what kind of cardio I am doing. Here's what I did today:
Abs, biceps, triceps, quads, calves, hamstrings, glutes shoulders, pecs, and back. For cardio and did a 5 min. warm up on the treadmill at 3.2 and then a 5 min. jog at 4.5
Stationary bike-10 min.
Treadclimber-10 min. at 2.6.
It's soo much easier to workout when I'm not working!!! I feel so much more relaxed and certainly can choose anytime of the day I want to workout!!!
I need a new sports bra!!! One with high activity support!! Thanks Shannon for the website Athleta.com. I found a few different kind I'm going to order.
Thanks Chris for finding the 10K to run in September! We need to get registered for that! Also, we can now register for the destination marathon in beautiful San Diego, California!! Rock and Roll !!!Let's try and get consecutive race numbers.
Okay, that's all for now! I'll keep you posted on my progress! Hopefully by writing this blog it'll keep me motivated for the next year!!!

Time to get busy!!!!

Now that school is out, hopefully I will begin training more seriously. Chris has found a 10k race that will be perfect to run to help get ready.
